Joss Stone was born in 1987 in England. She grew up listening to a wide variety of music but fell in love with the R & B and Soul of the 60s and 70s.
In 2001 she auditioned for the BBC talent show Star for a Night. She not only passed the audition but went on to win the contest. She got her big break when she performed at a charity event during which she drew the attention of the Boilerhouse Boys. They quickly called up S-Curve Records and told them that they had found the greatest singer in their country.
It was not long before S-Curve Records signed the young star and in 2003 she released her debut album Soul Sessions. The album went gold in 2004 and Triple Platinum in 2005.
Her second album Mind, Body and Soul was released in 2004 and in 2005 the album was certified platinum.
Also in 2005 she began the youngest solo artist to win a BRIT Award at the age of 17, but she won not one but two BRIT Awards (British Female Solo Artist and British Urban Act).
In 2007 she released her third album entitled Introducing Joss Stone. The album was not as successful as her previous records but did manage to be the highest debut for a British female solo artist on the U.S. charts at the time. That same year she shared a Grammy with John Legend and Van Hunt for Best R & B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
Her most recent album Color me Free! was released in 2009.
